These days we are, quite frankly, exhausted. We work 5 days a week, sometimes even 6, only to go home to rest in front the TV. It becomes a cycle and then we find ourselves just going through the motions every day and feeling “content” at our lifestyles.
Sometime ago, as I sipped on a can of Coke, I had a conversation with a fitness friend about exercise. She told me about how moving my body and being active would make me feel less exhausted, less tensed. I’m a pretty proactive person so the next day, I dragged myself to the nearest padang for a run and OMG…the burn.
I would have been very happy to give up but the bunch of my friends decided to have group exercises together. So for the past 2 years, we’ve bonded over which Zumba moves are the most fun, what badminton strategies work for us and who can jog the longest without losing breath.
When it’s raining, cold and you’re tired, I know all too well how hard it is to motivate yourself. But I’ve learned that I don’t have to do it alone. Here are the tips and tricks I’ve learned to keep fit & motivated with friends!
1. Set A Goal
You don’t have to be calculative about this but it really helps to see progresses made by you and your friends. Keep count of each other’s scores and it’ll feel great once you surpass your last benchmark.

2. Exercise Even When You Don’t Feel Like It
Keep the ball rolling, don’t let it stall. Think about it, you’ve got a group of 4 friends. It’s much easier to continue doing something than to start all over again. Plus, no one has ever regretted a workout.

3. Ignore What Anyone Else Says
It’s hard to stay motivated when you keep hearing things like “you’re too short to play basketball,” “you’re not runner material,” or even (my least favourite) “why are you wasting your time?” Don’t. Just don’t. Don’t let anyone tell you you’re not already a champion. As Nike says, just do it—there’s no time like the present!

4. Buy Some New Training Kit
Get rid of that old t-shirt and put on something associated with positive vibes. You and your friends can colour coordinate or even get a few printed especially to stay motivated for an upcoming event. Imagine looking fabulous together! Matching shirts aren’t thaaat out of style.

5. Do It For Yourself
After a month of grueling exercises, you’ll suddenly find yourself looking forward to the next workout session. Trust me, you will! It’s really tough work getting fit or in shape but just remember it’s the hard work that makes it great. Nothing worth fighting for is easy.
