Second in our lineup of western fast-food fare is pizza. Now, in Malaysia, there are two competing major pizza chains; Pizza Hut and Domino’s. As such, pizza fans are usually divided amongst them. However, they aren’t the only pizza providers in Malaysia. Just like the fried chicken restaurants we covered in our previous blog post, there are many other pizza chains that all compete for the title of being the best pizza place in Malaysia. And so, we thought that it’d be a good idea for us to list down our most popular pizza picks. Since we can’t fit all of them in a single article, we’ve narrowed it down to our top 5 choices.

1. Pizza Hut

Founded in the US in 1958, this pizza chain now has more than eighteen thousand restaurants worldwide. It was first introduced to the Malaysian market in 1982 where its first outlet was based in Kuala Lumpur. Besides pizza, their menu also consists of a variety of pastas as well as appetizers and desserts. Nevertheless, they are most famously known for their pan pizzas. Our favourite is their cheese stuffed-crust pizza where with every bite the thick cheese oozes out. Yum!

2. Domino’s

A strong rival to Pizza Hut, Domino’s was founded in 1960, just two years after Pizza Hut. As of 2018, Domino’s is now said to be the largest pizza chain in the world, dethroning Pizza Hut, the previous holder of said title. Established in Malaysia in 1997, this pizza chain is beloved by many Malaysians for their delicious and ample pizza sauce which perfectly complements their pizza dough. Other than that, their frequent promotions and menu innovations also help attract customers both new and old.

3. US Pizza

Marketed as the best American Pizza, US Pizza is a relatively new competitor to the pizza scene. Nonetheless, through videos of their pizzas circulating the web, it has managed to amass quite the number of fans. To date, their most famous pizza is their US Pizza Cheese Boat where the deliciously melted cheese is carefully contained by their baked pizza dough and crust. Those who have tasted their pizza say that it is a mixture of both Pizza Hut and Domino’s. So, the best of both worlds then.

4. Wood-Fired Oven Pizza

Unlike the previous three pizza chains where their pizzas were baked using typical ovens, wood-fired oven pizzas are baked using you guessed it, wood-fired ovens. This cooking method adds a smoky flavor to the baked pizza and is viewed to be the closest to the original Italian way of cooking pizza. So, if you ever find yourself bored of eating the same ol’ same ol’ pizza (cough Pizza Hut, cough Domino’s) and wish to try Italian style pizza, why not try a Wood-fired Oven Pizza?

5. Pezzo Pizza

Where the aforementioned pizza chains operate through restaurants, Pezzo Pizza simply operates by means of a stall. But we’re not talking about the pasar malam kind of stall here. It’s more of a carnivalesque booth type. So, think of a carnival or fair and imagine the colourful creative booths there. Although their pizzas are also baked in normal ovens just like the pizzas of Pizza Hut, Domino’s, and US Pizza, they are nothing alike. Even at a glance, one can easily see how different they are. Therefore, if you’re a fan of hefty, hearty pizzas, this is the pizza chain for you.

What do you think of our top 5 pizza picks? Do you agree or are you unable to decide since there are some pizza chains you have yet to try? If it’s the latter, you should definitely go and try them out as soon as possible because you’re seriously missing out on some good pizza.
